Today, Star is enjoying
her retirement.
She brought some
incredibly important traits to my breeding program
and I'm very thankful
for her.
Star is a very
sound dog: sound in body and in temperament.
She comes from a
pedigree full of sound dogs.
Star is also very
healthy and always has been.
She's fertile, has easy whelpings
and is a great mother in
her whelping box.
All of these are traits
that are quickly disappearing from this breed.
Star has been a
wonderful wet-nurse / surrogate mother
to other puppies in need
of her help.
She gladly joined Mariah in
the whelping box
to help nurse the
other half of Mariah's huge litter of 12 puppies in Feb 2007.
She helped nurse this
litter until pups were weaned at age six weeks.
Then, in March 2008,
Star wet-nursed her grandbabies
in a strange house,
around people she'd never met before,
in a strange whelping
box meant for the pups' mother,
around several dogs
she'd never met before
and all this without me
around at all!
On the day they were
whelped, the puppies' mother
died from complications
due to a C-Section.
Star wet-nursed her
grandbabies until they were weaned at age 5 weeks.
By generously offering
her mothering skills,
Star stepped in to help
save the lives of her grandbabies.
This is an amazing
story!
Most importantly, Star
has consistently produced very sound, healthy puppies.
Star is the mother to:
Panner.
She is also the
Grandmother to Vinny, Savvy
and Napa.
